LEOSS d.o.o. is a leading supplier of hardware and software for automatic identification and mobile data collection. Since their beginning in 1990, their business has been based on developing barcode and RFID technology. Nowadays they work with Kalipso Studio, a platform developed by Sysdev.

Royal Canin wanted to have a solution printing declaration labels on the spot. They receive different boxes of food from France and they have pre-printed declarations. They were not adequate in many cases (different distributor, language for Slovenia or Croatia was missing). Another problem occurs when content change is needed, but they already have thousands of pre-printed labels which are of course discarded.
In LEOSS d.o.o. they had to put together hardware (Cipherlab PDA device, printer Godex), professional software for printing labels (NiceLabel) and software which was made with Kalipso.
The customer will use a solution made with Kalipso to scan the product’s barcode for which all the right information will be printed on the label. Before print action, one can select language, supplier or other information. Regarding the efficiency and ecology, variable label length will be included, meaning, if the content is short, so will be the printed label. That part is solved with printer’s guillotine knife that cuts the end of the label (continuous label).

Royal Canin came to us with a problem that they needed to be solved. As a company that has a lot of experience in the field of developing custom software with Kalipso in combination with professional label printing, LEOSS used past knowledge and created the package in Kalipso. The main part was done in less than three days. Just some smaller adjustments were necessary later on.
The main benefit is that the customer does not need to have pre-printed labels anymore. They use the printer with the guillotine knife for cutting the labels depending on the size of the text for a specific product.
They are happy that we were able to solve the main issue – discarding the pre-printed labels because of internal or regulatory content change.
